Ten years ago, in 2013, the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) classified outdoor air pollution as a Group 1 carcinogen meaning that it is carcinogenic to humans. In 2019, 19% of global lung cancer deaths were linked to exposure to outdoor and household air pollution.
